Skip Hire FAQs

What sizes do skips come in?

Skips are most commonly named and categorized by the number of cubic yards of waste they can contain. The smallest skips can go as low as 2 cubic yards while the biggest skips can reach capacities of 40 yards. Currently at Regency Waste Solutions we off 4,8 and 14 yard skips.

Are there additional costs?

Placing a skip in the road or in a parking bay will require a skip permit and/or a parking suspension, both of which will add extra costs. If the delivery or collections is blocked by something like a parked car for example, this would incur a wasted journey fee. If you overfill your skip it may be to dangerous to collect which would also incur a fee. If you put prohibited items into your skip, such as tins full of paint, this can lead to an additional charge.

How long can I hire the skip for?

Typically the skip hire period has a maximum hire time of 14 days. Be careful as this is not always the case. If for example, your skip is placed on the road with the permissions of a skip permit, your hire period may be shorter.

What cannot go in a skip?

Unless previously agreed and with the use of a specialist skip you must avoid filling your skip with: food waste, hazardous waste, white goods, large electrical items, fluorescent tubes, chemicals and solvents, plasterboard and gypsum. Be wary when using skips that are 8 cubic yards in capacity and over when you want to get rid of heavy and dense waste. Skips have a weight limit so if you’re filling a large skip with heavy items like bricks, it become all to easy to accidently exceed your weight limit.
